10.4.2012 - Dienstag, Tuesday
Sorry for backtracking again, but: on Monday, I forgot to mention a small mistake I made that had an amusing outcome. In the morning, I came to their Hotel, and my mom and aunt wanted to get more pillows and I wanted to get a separate bed from the big bed that we had all shared the night before. Getting the bed wasn't issue, the words are pretty simple. "Extra Bett" is "Extra Bed", meanwhile, I told the lady that they, my mom and aunt, wanted two extra pillows. That's what I thought I said. The word for pillows is "Kissen", I kept accidentally saying "Kuessen". That's the word for kissing. Yup. The lady was confused and talking about putting beds together, when we finally got the idea of pillows across her face lit up "oooh!!" she laughed and seemed a little relieved and everyone got what they wanted.
Back to Tuesday. Guess who made a mistake again, this girl. I was tired when I set my alarm, saw that it said 6:00 or something close to that, and thought it was good enough. It was about 6:45 when we received a call from my sister, who was wondering why we hadn't called yet. That's because we were still sleeping. We all were startled awake and started rushing about, ate, everything worked out fine in the end. However, when I looked at my iPhod, I accidentally turned on my Thurs Fri alarm, which is clearly not Tuesday...
We made it to our train station on time and got to the Mannheim Hbf with about 8 minutes of layover time. Jackie and Chris went to go get some bread for breakfast and snack, and unfortunately were just a few minutes too late. It wasn't too big of a deal, it just meant we had an hour to kill, which was nice because Liz wanted coffee and we were able to buy a few snacks for the train; it was going to be about 4 hours until we got to Fuessen. Even better was that Jackie had reserved our tickets online for 2 pm because she was expecting us to wander Fuessen a little bit before we went up to the castle.
(My first ICE train! They were nice and comfy. | Various pictures between Mannheim and Fuessen)
(It was a cool view out of the back of the RB[Regional Bahn] train. | Mountains! Bayern/ Bavaria is so beautiful. | The trainstation. )
(More mountains. | Neuschanstein was being renovated, unfortunately. Reglazing the glass I think.)
(Another castle nearby Schloss Hohenschwangau. | My mom pointing the way | There was snow, but it wasn't that cold.)
(My sister and I | View from a lookout on the way to the castle. | Another view of Hohenschwangau.)
(Neuschwanstein, we're getting closer! | The town, the castle, the lake and the mountains. It was a beautiful day. | My traveling companions!)
(Entrance to Neuschwanstein. | No pictures on the tour, but I was allowed to take one out of the window. | Mini-model of the castle.)
(I love this picture. Hence the reason it's alone and bigger, heh.)
(A waterfall from a bridge up above the castle. | A tourist sign | The mountains on our trip back.)
The was beautiful, everything was great. It ended pretty well too. Notice the sun is setting as we're just getting on the train in the last picture. That's because we didn't catch a train until 7:05. We decided that for dinner we would just buy some bread, cheese and meat for the road. My mom and aunt decided to buy a bottle of wine too, after all, they didn't have to drive and they were having cheese. It was a delicious meal, and just the two of them drank most of the bottle. Unfortunately, I can't access my aunt's photo website, otherwise I would have a few more beautiful pictures. I do have one picture from earlier in the evening though.
The food was quite tasty, and they decided they would share the wine by using their old bottles because we couldn't find any small plastic cups anywhere. Later when we were on the ICE train, that was a poor decision at best. My aunt grabbed her water bottle took a big swig because she was thirsty and spit it out all over the floor because it wasn't actually the clear liquid she thought. Luckily we had out own compartment and no one saw or heard us do all of the silly things that night. My aunt took off her shoes and covered up the wet spot, which was a good idea because 5 minutes later the ticket checker opened our door. I can only imagine what she thought when she got a huge whiff of wine.
Later that night, my mom was trying to pour a little bit of wine into a bottle for my sister to try it. The way she poured it ended up dropping almost more wine on the table than in the bottle. It was a great night, even though we didn't get back home until about 1am. Although, I can't complain because I saw something very interesting. I hope I didn't step on one though, I was so paranoid.
