To Cardiff! Cindy and I woke up, waited on Rachel, who I think was still sleeping at our meeting time. Luckily(?) were able to get into Andi's building (who had to leave early for the Queen's Jubilee Celebration) and wake her up. We eventually made our way to the bus station to catch another bus to Cardiff to wander around and see whatever was around. The trip was about an hour long. Our main plan was to go to Cardiff Bay to see where some of Doctor Who was filmed and the monument that Torchwood is supposedly under, which was about 20-30 minutes walk away from where we were dropped off.
Oh! I forgot about the giant building that some government(?) sits in and the Millennium Centre or Canolfan Mileniwm Cymru in Welsh. Unfortunately, the weather was, well typical and rainy, as you can easily see in some of the pictures. Once we made it to the Bay, of course we went to the monument and stepped onto the step with the perception filter. Watch me disappear! It was also unfortunate that the place that the TARDIS landed was covered up by some sent that had some weird show going on called the Bangkok something or another. It seemed like those ladies in Las Vegas with a bit of a suggestive name, so we didn't get to nerd out anymore. Instead we wandered along the Bay some, ate a few Welsh Cakes and then decided to get food at a near by pub that Cindy said was "cheap and cheery" according to a security guard she asked the last time she was around. It certainly was! Rachel and I decided we would try "Fish and Chips" in its motherland, but just in case we didn't like it, we ordered a Shepard's Pie. The food was more than enough for both of us. The pie was delicious and the fish was alright, a little bland, but ketchup made it better. While ordering, we spotted a beer on tap called "Brains", something that amused Rachel so she got up and took a picture of it.
On our walk back, we passed a rather odd art museum or store of something. I spotted some "art" in the corner of the glass that looked like frogs falling down/ raining. Of course, my first thought was of my Witch Doctor character on Diablo III. We also spotted Brains more around the city. Cindy had explained early that it was actually the local beer and there was a large factory near by, so of course it was everywhere. It was just very amusing to us, how can it not be?
We stopped by a tourist trap and a church, looked at various things within the store, nothing to my liking so I didn't buy anything aside from a few post cards. Then we wandered towards Cardiff's Castle because castles are cool and Rachel has a fond childhood story that took place at the castle. We didn't go inside though, probably because we were cheap or something. Shortly there after, we wandered into another tourist trap which had cool little sets of things and chess boards and what not. After that we went and relaxed in a large garden by the river and chatted for a little while. During our conversation, a fellow tourist (but UKian) approached us asking for directions. She was very chatty and thought we were nice. We pointed her and her husband towards the castle and then went on our way.
As we were walking back towards the buses, which were by the stadium, we ended up running into them again and chatting more. Turns out they were managers for a band. Well for a guy mostly, and she almost sounded like she was trying to get us to be fans and how he was young and single, etc. The way were hoping to walk by the stadium was being blocked off because a big match was about to get out so we had to walk all the way around. Which was alright because we ran into some art that I had to climb. I made the lame joke that we were just two peas in a pod.
After getting home, we made a spaghetti and meat sauce combination for dinner and munched on the left overs of dessert from the prior day. We then messed around for a while, just hanging out. It would be the last night we would have together for a while since Cindy was going home the next week or two and then Rachel the next month and quite a while afterwards. Rachel got to drink some Brains, I had the greatest Taffy Apple cider ever, and Cindy had her berry cider, which is on Rachel's and my face... I'm very photogenic, I know.
(What do they mean... Comando in this respect... Is there something lost in English to English translation?)
