I crawled into bed really early the night before, but there was a bit of chattering around so I probably didn't sleep until 10 or so. I set my alarm to 4:53, I woke up confused because my body wasn't used to such an early time. I got up, got ready, scarfed down the remaining bit of our yogurt and the remainined vegetables, then got everything ready to go. We rushed to the bus stop, only to find no bus. It must have either come exactly on time, or early. Which was incredibly unusual. The next bus would not have us arrive at the Hauptbahnhof until 11 minutes before we needed to board, so I wandered down to the area where taxis normally sat, and fortunately there was one there. We got a ride and it ended up costing us about 10 euros, but we were there about 30 minutes early and we were both very okay with that. Even after eating a good amount of food, I was still hungry so I bought something very interesting that I had never seen before a "Zimtwuppi". My goodness, it was delicious. It had a quark-based Teig (dough) and was layered with cinnamon sugar.
We finally got on the train, which was a pain with my almost 50 lb suitcase and the leftover oranges and food that I had. After settling in, we had an hour train ride to Hannover. It amazes me how much open space there seems to be in Germany, but it was a nice view, never the less.We made our transfer first transfer, which was a more comfortable train meant for more serious travelers with large suitcases. I also liked the advertisement in the Bahnhof because it was Rittersport, and it's very delicious. Unfortunately some of my pictures were lost because an app on the iPhod I have wasn't working and I had to reset it, of course forgetting I don't have the pictures. Although, I have plenty of time to take more.
Our next transfer didn't go as smoothly because we only had 8 minutes and did not see any elevevators around that would let us go from one platform to another, so we hauled our things down and up some stairs. We got there just a minute before our train was pulling up. We arrived in Mannheim and were met by a girl named Karin who is working/interning at the Hochschule. In all the moving around, my bionade bottle ended up breaking, fortunately my mustard stayed intact!
We took a bus to our apartments, and made it one piece. Rachel's on the first, and I'm on the fourth floor of the same building, so I'm glad we're in the same building at least. Now, for my apartment. It. is. awesome. There's so much room in my room, a kitchen, two bathrooms, a shower room, and I only share this area with two other people! Sorry the lighting is so dark in the bathroom and hallway, I didn't quite figure out the lighting system at that point. Also, the lock system is cool. You have a key fob that allows you to enter your building and then your shared apartment. You only need a key for your mailbox and your actual room.
After all that we went to the near by Penny Markt, and I bought milk and Muesli (cheaper and healthier than normal cereal for more, what? Yes please.) and Rachel bought some eggs. One of the food items we bought but didn't use from Bremen was called Pfannschicken, we thought they looked a lot like crepes/ pancakes. They were quite delicious! We added some jelly and I added some Orangen. My last one turned out just about perfect, I think. :) [By the way, McDonald's are really classy feeling here, but also more expensive.] Not too late after that, I went to sleep. Or tried to, it was a Friday night in the middle of a student complex. There was a deep bass that was never consistant so I couldn't fall asleep, plus it was vibrating my wall. I ended up at about 10:40, rearranging my room so my bed was on the other side of the room and putting ear buds in and falling asleep to my own music.
