So, I was convinced to go to Hamburg the previous night. All I had to do was be at the university by 9:30 and the traveling cost would be around 10 euros. It seemed like a reasonable plan the night before and the morning of. I also figured I could sleep in an extra hour in that case, however I somehow managed to wake up 40 minutes earlier than normal and couldn't fall back asleep. I got myself ready and had an hour to kill, so I think I posted 2 or 3 blog posts. Exciting, right?
Finally at 8:41, I left, made it to the school by 9:11, where everyone but one person was waiting. In the mean time they ate some food and we chatted some. Finally, when we all were together, we hopped into the VW Touareg Lucas had rented and embarked on our adventure nach Hamburg.
There was construction for a lot of it, so it was a little scary because we were so close to large trucks and the dividing rail for spouts of time. It was an Autobahn, however I think our (my American) view(s) are skewed what the Autobahn really is. Most of the way to Hamburg was 80-120 km/h (50-75 mph), it wasn't a free for all like I normally thought. I am unsure if this was due to construction, or if it's normal in that area. We did get up to 140 km/h on occasion... We arrived in Hamburg, parked, etc. at about 11am. We ended up going our separate ways for shopping and decided to meet up again at 2pm. I wandered through a lot of stores, many of the styles I did not find appealing. They were too bland for me. Finally, I found an H & M. I like their clothing, and they're cheap, both wonderful things. I ended up buying some black tights, which were as think as the leggings I saw, but felt nicer. Not much later, I found a place called "The New Yorker", I feel like such an American because I liked the store so much [It's a German store though!]. I ended up buying a cool belt there because, well, amazingly enough, I didn't bring any belts for pants... They also had cool leather jackets, which I have come to enjoy and see in a lot of stores. It was also only 19,99 euros because it was on sale and the last one left, but alas, I'm too frugal for even that. There was also an Kunsthalle, Art Museum, that looked a lot like the Museum of Science and Industry from far away with its dome.
After looking around some, we all met up again and they decided to get something to eat, by 2pm, I had already eaten so I just got a small delicious dessert (Oranjeh Mousse), it had actual orange zest in it! It was at this point we decided we wanted to visit the lakes they had there. As we were leaving, I noticed a Raving Rabbids bunny in the window of the Saturn Store (It's an everything but car store, it seemed.) We walked to the lake, but the weather only seemed to get worse the closer we got. I still managed to take some nice pictures. I took a picture of the bird here because I have never seen a black duck? before. I forgot that I'm in a different country and they have different creatures.
We wandered further along the water because apparently there was a pathway that would lead under the highway and to the other, larger lake. Turns out it was a dead end and the only way to get back was to travel all the way back to where we started to cross the street. We all decided that we just wanted to go home. However, we first took a picture in front of the lake! Chiara, Lucas, Karim, Me, Raphael was taking the picture, so he wasn't in it. On our way back, I saw a giant spider! I have no idea what it was for, but I had to take a picture because it was fascinating. A little while later I saw a bakery with Berliners, it was at that point that I had started my bucket list. Eat a hamburger in Hamburg, eat a Berliner in Berlin, eat a frankfurter in Frankfurt, I don't know about the amerikaner in America though. We'll see about that. And, if I find any other foods named after/ with names of places, those will go on it too! (I looked some up, black forest cake in Schwarzwald. :D )
