Day 117 - Wormshead, Swansea University, and Cindy's Baked Goods.

1.6.12 - Freitag, Friday

Unfortunately, the morning was a bit early for me, but I survived. Especially with all the fun that was in store for us! Cindy and Andi had planned for us all to go to Three Cliffs, a local cliff formation on the water, but first we went to the store to pick up some things to eat and drink. It was interesting going through the store because everything was exactly what I was used to back home. A giant store, full of food, medicine, etc. Medicine that was not herbal remedies, but rather things to quickly help you along. I would say it's just like the US, except I think in reality the US is just like the UK. They came first, anyways. While wandering around, we found out that a local beer was called "Brains". Not being a fan of beer, I passed and bought Taffy Apple Cider and a Berry Cider [Kopparberg.] instead.

We then bused it over to the bus station to make our way towards three cliffs. While Cindy and Andi were trying to figure out which bus we were supposed to take, I took the opportunity to purchase some food, I was quite hungry. Cindy had told me about the pastys that one of the stores sold (we'd call it a pastry, not really sure how that works...) so I bought an onion and cheese filled fluffy dough item. It was quite delicious. Shortly after, when I was looking for them, I found them waiting in line too. We had a few minutes before we hopped on the bus anyhow and about 45 minutes until we arrived. Well, if we had gotten off where we were supposed to. We ended up riding the bus all the way to the end of the line to Worm's Head, a place apparently just as spectacular (if not better in Andi's opinion.) If I hadn't explained this before, Cindy and Andi are both Materials Engineers from ISU. I met Cindy through a club at school and then we lived together for a year and a half and I met Andi through Cindy and Rachel/ being around the Mat Es rather often.

We arrived, unfortunately, after it was safe to cross over to the Worm's Head area so we had to admire it from afar or be trapped on the island, or swept away by the tide. If you pay attention to the pictures, you can see how quickly the tide came in in a little over an hour. Apparently the idea behind Worm's Head is that worm is what the Welsh would call a serpent or a dragon and that this is a worm with it's head coming out of the water. Since we couldn't cross, we decided to find a nice place to sit and enjoy lunch together. Of course, after investigating a few spots, we stumbled upon a nice cliff edge (Well, walked graciously, really.).

After we enjoyed our meals we made our way down to the rocks by the shore and wandered through. Aside from it being a fly/ bug breeding ground, it was really cool. But, we couldn't stay long because Andi had to go practice for her performance for the Queen's Jubilee (Her 60th year of reign) and the tide was coming. We all wandered toward the school, chatted for a little bit about all sorts of crazy things. I can only imagine what people around us were thinking if they heard us. (Those crazy Americans!) We also saw a soccer match going on down below. It looked like it was blazers versus tanks. It was interesting because it seemed like a side rule was to make sure your beer was in your hand at all times. I had to take a picture.

After saying goodbye to Andi, Cindy showed us the beach that lay on the other side of the bushes. Rachel made a short side bar on the account of an interesting tree, and then we wandered through the sand. After Rachel went barefoot, I decided I really didn't want sand in my shoes either. There were shells everywhere! I also found a dead baby crab, sad, but also interesting.

After all that was over, Cindy took us back to her apartment where she started cooking slutty brownies and mac and cheese cupcakes. The brownies are brownie batter layered with oreos and then cookie batter on top and baked (deeelicious!) and the cupcakes was a box of mac and cheese but baked with extra cheese and maybe a few other ingredients in a muffin tin. I (of course, if any of you know me will not be surprised) wanted to cook up some veggies, so I cooked some of Cindy's frozen broccoli. Boy was that kitchen hot by the end! We chatted for quite a while, played some cards (I learned how to play Euchre) and started reading through various things on the internet, and then managed to start reading from the old testament in the bible because of some reason or another.

Chatted, chatted, then Rachel and Andi made their way back to her apartment and Cindy and I did our own things. Also, because she's crazy and was taking online classes at ISU while still finishing up Swansea, she has some homework to do. Yay Mechanics of Materials. :p

(Some house we passed quickly. - Wormshead in the distance. - The beach, and the sheep! [That are eeeeverywhere] )

(This is my view from where I was eating [There is about a food gap between the ledge I was on and then the drop.] - All of us lined up. - The tide...)

(Rachel, being silly. - Everyone. - Interesting rock that was very worn down even though it wasn't close to the water.)

(Tide pool - To campus! On the purple bus [because it was completely purple on the outside] - Swansea University sign, with Welsh on it.)

(Afore mentioned match - and tree [minecraft-y] - Shells and footprints in the sand)

(More shells - Baby crab - More cool shells.)
