126 - Longing for the Long Trip to be Over

10.6.12 - Sonntag, Sunday

The morning was a little rough after staying up so late, but I packed up and made it down to our last delicious breakfast buffet. After piling our stuff into the bus, Rachel and I headed down to the Theaterplatz to visit the churches we didn't have time to on the previous days. We really only had time to quickly walk through one of them, the Frauenkirche. I wish we could have seen St. Trinitatis.

After the bit of time we had to our disposable, we all met up to go on a boat-trip to the castle of Pillnitz (Schloss Pillnitz). It was informative because we passed quite a few historical places on this trip. However, it was so slow and relaxing that it was slowly lulling me to sleep. I stayed awake by getting up and taking pictures of all sorts of things. Because it was a Dampfschifffahrt (steam-boat), I had to visit the engine room, which happened to be right by the bathroom [two birds with one stone]. It was different than I had expected, since I had never seen a steam boat engine before,  and a little too warm to stay by for very long.

Our final stop was the Castle Pillnitz. All of the people went into the park, besides Rachel and myself, we didn't feel like it. Instead, we visited a few random shops they had here and there. She bought a glass blown bird in an attempt to (potentially) recreate it or just to have it because she didn't think she could ever make one. The next place was a Chocolatier, so we visited, bought a chocolate or two and browsed a few other shops. We noticed there was a little Asian shop of a sort and asked if we could enter. They had a plethora of tea, it was wonderful. I found the samples, smelled them when I found one of the greatest teas I have ever had. Vanilla, almond, coconut and Redbush/ Rooibush tea as the base. Ooh man. Rachel bought a mug and we made our way out.

Somewhere in the time we arrived and met with the group to head back to Mannheim, we wandered toward the river, sat on part of the castle wall with our feet dangling over the foliage below and enjoyed lunch and our chocolates.

Once we met up with everyone, we all hopped on the bus for, what felt like, an even longer ride back than getting there. I was so tired, but couldn't sleep. We were supposed to arrive back around 10:30pm, I don't think we arrived back until 12:30am. That meant the trams and buses weren't running as often or at all, so we walked back. It was sometime after 1 that we were finally back. I was quite happy with not having class until 1:40pm so I could catch up on some needed beauty sleep.

Overall, aside from the bus trips being terribly long, it was a fantastic trip. I can't wait until I can do another journey like that again. Except next time by train to avoid traffic.
