66 - Triberge Wasserfaelle in Schwarzwald!

11.4.2012 - Mittwoch, Wednesday

Wednesday was a lot let problematic, for the most part. Wednesday, I was up and ready ahead of time, so I figured I would go to the Edeka and turn in the plastic bottles to get money back, and buy more bottles. Buying water anywhere other than a market was like 5x as much. I bought everything and waited for everyone on the Gleis [platform] for them. We caught our train and got to Triberg without an issue. We got there and it started to drizzle, the bahnhof also felt like a ghost town. You walked inside and nothing was open aside from a little snack kiosk thing. I guess it wasn't tourist season quite yet. I picked up a brochure, and was a little scared because I thought it said that the falls weren't open until May. That wasn't the case fortunately. It was a trek up the streets and the hill, but literally right off of a road and into the forest was the famous waterfall. That made it easy to find our way back. We passed a lot of stores that had closed, but the closer to the falls, the more that was open.

We stopped in a few various shops because I was really hungry and because everyone was looking for souvenirs. We were also looking for somewhere with Black Forest Cake, it was on my bucket list and everyone else was game for it. We found a few, but figured we would stop by later because we were still going to go to the falls. Then everyone was distracted by a Kuku Clock shop, I don't blame them. They were beautifully amazing, and the Schwarzwald clocks were very famous. We also were able to ask for advice on where to get the cake. It was actually the chocolate shop that we were planning on going back to anyways. Perfect. Now, onto the falls!

Even though it was a cloudy and not so great day, the forest was still vivid and green with moss and trees. Unfortunately, half way through our hike, my camera died. I had forgotten to charge it, poor thing.  After going through the forest, we winded our down toward a church. On the way we passed a high-rope/ obstacle course. It would have been fun, but I wasn't really in the mood. Plus, I had a ton of empty water bottles that I wanted to get rid of. I had seen signs for a Netto Markt somewhere.

We reached the church, which looked pretty boring from the outside, but wow. The inside was beautiful. I'm not sure I will ever stop being amazed by churches here in Europe. I went got a little ahead because I wanted to go down to the market, that's when we all separated way. Mmy mom and aunt wanted to see a giant Kuku Clock and my sister and her boyfriend came along with me. We ended up buying various kinds of chocolate for everyone to try with the money from the plastic bottles. It was quite delicious.

We all met up again, went to a restaurant, turned out the kitchen wasn't open for another hour and then my mom, aunt and I went to the little chocolate shop attached to the hotel while the other two hung out at the bar of the restaurant. The lady there had a really hard time understanding all of us and we ended up getting two of the wrong coffee drinks, when my aunt only wanted one, and they didn't have Chai tea, so I ordered a Rednose Raindeer, and ended up getting a plum tea. Everyone was happy in the end, and we got our cake! Holy cow, they use a strong cherry liquor, but it was not what I was expecting at all. Still, quite good.

We went to the restaurant, ordered various things. Everyone seemed to not like anyone else's aside from their own dish, so that worked out. We went home after that, and planned a little more for the next day.

(My mom on the bridge over the falls. | I hopped up on a mossy rock, it looked cool. | Bierstiefel AKA Das Boot to American folks...)
