Day 27 & 28 - Internet! & Churches/ Sneak Pre-view

03.03.12 - Samstag, Saturday

After meeting one of my roommates the night before, Tatjana, who is very kind and friendly, we discovered that we needed cords for internet. It turns out weren't sure exactly what we needed because there were so many outlets in our rooms so we went home, and it was too late to go back out so we waited until the next morning. So, our morning began with us wandering into town in an attempt to find a place that sold the cords we needed. We finally made it to T-Mobil and found some long CAT 5 cables. Shortly after we discovered a fresh market in Marktplatz (market place, city center square) with a lot of things to offer. We continued to wander around the downtown area and the nice little shops, in which we found interesting things. Among which, I couldn't help but take a sarcastic picture [left], or funny picture, or of the really large fresh market.

After buying a few things here and there, we made our way home to discover and pass many children's parks. One of which had a giant octopus (unfortunately with an awkward drawing on the front and I was trying to look cool. That worked...) and a tandem swing, which we of course played on. We also decided to stop in Penny Markt, just to buy a few things, like I had forgotten to buy knoblauch (garlic) while I was buying ingwer (ginger) and kopfsalat (head of salad) at the market.

At the Penny Markt, I found a very interesting candy called "A... mit Ohren" which from the picture you might be able to determine it's an A... with ears. I was almost tempted to buy them for the entertainment factor, but I was afraid they would taste bad. This day was also Kaleidoquiz day, back in Ames unfortunately. We were able to help for some of the early morning questions, but it was a little tough because we had a 30 second delay from the internet. I got a 50 point question at least! ))><(( and I also was bored, and drew a picture of their logo this year [bottom left].

04.03.12 - Sonntag, Sunday

Rachel and I decided we wanted to see what a German Catholic mass was like in a German church, there is a really nice one that's only a 10 minute walk away. We arrive to find that all the doors were locked. I looked at the mass times poster, and realized that it listed other churches because this one was under construction. We walked into the city and probably visited four other churches, three Catholic, one Lutheran. All of which had locked doors, we were both rather disappointed because this was something we were looking forward to. Especially since the mass we were planning on going to was Jesuit (which are supposed to be very interesting). We ended up visiting a bakery near some museums, bought something to eat and wandered home, looking at a few stores here and there.

Later that night, I made myself spaghetti with tomatoes, garlic, and ginger. It was really interesting and potent, but absolutely delicious! I couldn't get the taste out of my mouth though. It was about this time that Rachel was facebooking me to see if I wanted to go ins Kino (to the cinema) with her and her roommate. I figured, why not? It was only 5,90 for a night showing, and it was a sneak preview to something that wasn't released yet [middle above]. It ended up being a British movie called "The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel", I really enjoyed it, especially because it had a lot of familiar characters and it had several plot lines going at once that all came together somehow.

On our walk back home, we were taken down the walkway by the water [right above]. It turns out there's a cocoa factory not too far away from where we live, so every once in a while there's the smell of chocolate in the air. It's wonderful. The night was also calm, and I was able to take a nice picture. Not to long afterwards I fell asleep. We had a big day ahead of us, we needed to go to the Hochschule and get a lot of new student things done.
